It never fails to amaze me how much work has to go into a making a pair of Impi sandals. Sindi oversees the operation in Kwa Zulu Natal and she covers a high mileage every day in her small van. She has to travel from her home in Durban to Pietermaritzburg which is nearly 90 kms to collect the tyres. She then has to deliver them to the local villages where they will be crafted into Impi sandals.
The key to the whole operation is that the sandals are crafted at home. There is no point in having a central place where all the crafters work. It would take nearly a day for them to reach the factory, hence doing the work at home. We hope to buy Sindi a new larger truck this year.
